Kristerfer Burnett is a seasoned public policy strategist and community leader committed to advancing equity and civic engagement in Baltimore. He earned a B.A. in African-American Studies from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2008, and a Master of Public Policy from the University of Maryland Baltimore County in 2011.
Kristerfer served as a lead community organizer with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and later as Director of Community Organizing at Comprehensive Housing Assistance, Inc. He has held leadership roles on various boards, including Red Line Now P.A.C., B.E.S.T. Democratic Club, Young Non-Profit Professional Network, and Local Progress.
In 2016, Kristerfer was elected to represent Baltimore's 8th City Council District, encompassing over 40,000 residents across 27 diverse neighborhoods. He was re-elected in 2020 and served until December 2024. During his tenure, he sponsored 126 ordinances, with 61 enacted, focusing on crime, education, government accountability, and quality of life issues. Notably, he played a pivotal role in the redevelopment of the Edmondson Village Shopping Center, transforming it from a site plagued by crime into a community asset .
Kristerfer co-founded Neighbors Without Borders of Greater Southwest Baltimore and the Edmondson Village Farmers Market, initiatives aimed at fostering community cohesion and local economic development. His contributions have earned him accolades such as the Baltimore Social Innovation Journal Award and the Daily Record’s “20 in Their Twenties.”
